We have been an ISO-17100 certified translation agency for many years, a fact we are very proud of. This means your translation and revision work is in good hands with us. And the good news doesn't stop there: Helena Technical Translations is now also ISO-18587 certified. This is the official standard for post editing of machine translations.

But what does ISO certified actually mean?

At HTT, quality is our top priority. As such, as a translation agency, we have committed to working in accordance with the European ISO-17100 quality standard. This is the official standard for translation services. This standard imposes requirements on translation agencies in relation to staff selection, project management, translation and revision.

This guarantees that all the translation work we deliver is of a high quality. Furthermore, an annual audit verifies that we still comply with these strict requirements.

Revising a translation is part of our work

The standard imposes strict requirements in areas including the revision (second check) that the translation agency carries out on the translated text. Every translation is translated and/or proofread by one of our team of professionals.

All these professionals have a recognised linguistic/translation qualification. Our teams also generally work with regular clients, which means they know their clients' exact requirements and wishes.

ISO-18587 certified for post editing of machine translations

For some of our regular clients, Helena Technical Translations has used machine translation for many years. This is always at the request of the client and is never done without the client's knowledge.

Machine translation is simply a tool that allows translation agencies to increase productivity. However, it can never replace either the translator or the reviser. The translator uses the output of the machine translation to form a grammatically correct sentence. The reviser checks the entire translation for any mistakes.

The four-eyes principle, for which Helena Technical Translations is known, thus still applies. Editing and amending the machine translation is known as post editing.

An ISO standard for post editing of machine translations has also been published to ensure that this work complies with certain quality requirements. Helena Technical Translations has also been ISO-18587 certified since November 2020, which we're very pleased about!
